Maulana Muhammad Ali
  • He joined the Ahmadiyya Movement in 1897 and devoted his life to the service of this movement in 1900. Although he considered the movement to be part of Islam, others considered it outside the fold of Islam.
  • Maulana Muhammad Ali led this movement after its foundation in 1914, organising its world-wide missionary activities, and produced a vast amount of literature in English and Urdu.

  • Issued fatwa allowing French schoolgirls to remove their hijabs in order to receive an education
  • Issued a fatwa permitting abortion in the case of rape
  • Opposes female circumcision, calling it haram, and nothing to do with religion
  • Condemned the use of suicide bombers
  • Called suicide bombers "enemies of Islam"
  • Denounced the 9/11 attacks, and specifically singled out Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and Osama bin Laden, saying "Killing innocent civilians is a horrific, hideous act that no religion can approve". He said the Qur'an "specifically forbids the kinds of things the Taliban and al-Qaida are guilty of".
