LEBANESE WOMAN WEARS HIJAB IN US, BUT REMOVES IT AT HOME IN LEBANON
A Muslim woman at a Jewish-Christian-Muslim trilateral dialogue which had both 
men and women equally in attendance said that when she lives day to day in the 
United States she wears a scarf, but when she goes home to Lebanon she takes it 
off. In both instances, she says, she is making a point about the status and 
place of women in society and imagination. In the United States she does not 
want to be an object of sexual fantasy, and in Lebanon she does not want to be 
set off in the category of devout women who would never complain about a 
secondary role. I should add that she is a first-class professor of 
constitutional law.
